Interview

    • How long have you been working at the hotel?
      Since October 2011. I used to work at the head office in Seven Dials in Covent Garden, London. In the afternoon, I might move around and visit some of the other hotels, to catch up or see if they need any help with the PMS or payment facilities.
    • Tell us about your hotel
      Our group stands out as we’re quite a new concept, “Urbanite” – our hotels are five-star, quite compact but offer the latest technology, with new generation TVs and devices. There’s also complimentary cheese and wine every evening for guests from 5-8pm. This helps bring together. We have a mix of business and leisure guests. We have eight hotels, and looking to add around five more in two or three years.
    • How long have you been working with Availpro? Why did you decide to choose them?
      We’ve been with Availpro for three years now. My predecessor selected them, as at the time I was the hotel operations manager for our Soho property. Why did we switch? We wanted to make the booking as simple as possible. Our concept is simplicity – and this is what we expect from Availpro as well. When we decided to go with them, it was a small company looking to grow together, and collaborate; we help each other and this is what we liked, and we decided to take the journey together.
    • What was the biggest impact on your business after selecting Availpro as your partner?
      We like the Smart Booking Engine, and the simplicity of the booking process. We run at nearly 100% occupancy (99.8%) over the year. Operating in the way we do, we need a stable platform. We don’t overbook; if we have 100 rooms, we want the money for 100 rooms. Availpro has that instant connectivity with OTAs.
    • Is there anything that makes Availpro seem unique?
      Availpro is always wanting to stay on top, and that’s reassuring. They’re always looking to improve.
    • Are there any tools or enhancements you would like to see made?
      The ability to add extras to a calendar, and not input daily.
    • What would you say to anyone considering partnering with Availpro?
      Availpro is very stable – I think there is an issue perhaps every six months, but then all of the Availpro team are on it. The support team always tries to minimise risk. The London team is very well trained, and we always schedule meetings. They’ve always been very proactive. There’s a robust programme. Also I believe every hotelier wants direct bookings. OTA commissions are probably the biggest thing in the P&L for every hotel. That’s why we have the loyalty codes, we know we can’t get it all, but we do our best to get more direct bookings. It needs to be smooth, easy and transparent. We’re not an IT company.

Sergiu joined Z Hotels in April 2012 and started as duty manager before being promoted as operations manager. Since May 2015, he has been overseeing revenue management and distribution strategy of the hotel and manage day to day yield operations.
